Transfer of Credits

LPTC students who have earned college credit at other colleges or universities will have their transcripts evaluated and courses that are accepted will be included in the course history and will count toward a student’s degree goal. Courses that are accepted for transfer are not given a letter grade at LPTC and are not calculated in the cumulative Grade Point Average.

Official transcripts from each previously attended institution are required for an accurate evaluation of transfer credit. Transcripts presented directly by the student are not official and will not be used for evaluation of transfer credit. Appropriate arrangements must be made with the Admission’s Office if this requirement is not met at the time of enrollment.

Students who have official transcript(s) forwarded to the Office of Admissions and Student Records will automatically have the transcript(s) evaluated for transfer credit.  The Registrar will identify those institutions from which credit can be transferred. If questions arise with regard to transfer of specific courses, the Dean of Enrollment Management & Noncredit Education/Registrar will confer with the appropriate departmental faculty. The following will apply:

  1. 1.Credit for course work taken at other institutions will be transferred subject to the following considerations:2.LPTC will accept up to 34 credits, D grade or better if the student has a GPA of 2.0 or higher, except for courses that requires a letter grade of C or better (typically mathematics and english). Students that have a GPA below 2.0 will not be awarded transfer credits for letter grades of D.
    1. a.Must be a regionally accredited intuition;
    2. b.The comparability of the course work with LPTC courses work;
    3. c.The appropriateness of the course work for meeting degree requirements at LPTC.
  2. 3.Developmental and/or remedial credits (typically numbered less than 100/1000) will not transfer.
  3. 4.Transfer credits become applicable to a LPTC degree program only after the student has been admitted as a degree-seeking student.
  4. 5.Courses that are accepted for transfer are given the letter grade earned but are not calculated in the cumulative grade point average at LPTC.
  5. 6.100 level courses cannot substitute for 200 level courses, however, 200 level courses can substitute for 100 level courses.
  6. 7.Credits taken 10 years and over are evaluated by the department chairs.
